AA graduate Yana Shaban’s Fifth Year project Re-Framing the Hollow has been highly commended in the postgraduate category of the Architects’ Journal Student Prize 2025. The project, for which Shaban was awarded the Diploma with Honours earlier this year, addresses the issue of stone misappropriation in the West Bank and proposes a reintegration of building stone into the architectural typology of this region. The AJ judges commented that ‘there is a tendency for students to have a very timely concept and as such the consequence becomes mediocre, but the amount of rigour and seriousness with which this project has been treated is fantastic.’
