AA alumna Susanne Bier gave an interview to Architectural Digest on the forthcoming HBO show The Undoing, which she directed, and was directly involved in the location scouting and set design process. In the interview, she discussed the importance of design in creating a vivid and believable televisual world, and spoke on her time at the AA:
“I went to architectural school before I went to film school, so my involvement is not arbitrary. For me, production design is an integral part of describing the characters and their potential conflicts and where they go and what they say. It’s very, very, very important to me.”
The series, starring Hugh Grant, Nicole Kidman and Donald Sutherland prominently features houses, apartments and mansions in New York and Long Island, and the architectural choices play a vital role in the story-telling.
