Laurence Loh (AADipl 1974) has been interviewed by The Edge, discussing his 48 years’ experience working with architectural heritage, or warisan, in Malaysia. Loh’s practice, Arkitek LLA Sdn Bhd, have restored some of Penang’s most notable pieces of architectural heritage, including Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion and the Penang Hill Railway.
Loh highlighted the importance of preserving heritage as a part of more sustainable development:
‘We are advocating that heritage be placed at the heart of sustainable development and relating our work and buildings to the sustainable development goals (SDGs) whenever possible, especially Goal 11 — making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.’’
