For the first edition of Mares, four artists have been invited to work in the Santa Croce complex, in the province of Alessandria. The convent of Santa Croce in Bosco Marengo was built by Pope Saint Pius V, and great artists of the time, including Giorgio Vasari, participated in the design and construction of the complex and the works contained within it. This year, Lemonot, the practice of AA Foundation Course Tutor Sabrina Morreale, was invited to put each work in dialogue with the spaces of the complex, inviting artists to interfere subtly with the landscape, unveiling specific connotations such as the natural reserve, the Orba riverscape, the local honey harvesting and the felt production. Lemonot said:
‘As curators, we intend to stimulate fellow artists to conceive places as common space(s) – as frameworks to propose their work, while experiencing forms of mutual exchange and reflection within these territories’
The opening of the 2025 Bosco Marengo Residency will be on the 20 September, for further information click here.
