Daryan Knoblauch´s Megaphone Pavilion, has been inaugurated at Concéntrico 2024. The pavilion is a communication device that launches a 10 year infrastructural adaptation plan, SCENIUS 26003, the winning proposal for Concéntrico’s and Porto Academies The Street in 10 yearscompetition which was inaugurated on 26 April.
The Pavilion is constructed out of a 15m high custom knit tensile structure, fixed to a singular mounting point of a rented crane, whose arm rises above the surrounding trees, while seven locally sourced stones define the perimeter of an existing void that the fabric is connected to. Its continuous silver textile marks a 250sq.m. temporal shelter with a height of 15m producing a meeting point under which local and external voices are heard, amplified and connected. The mobile tensile structure is defined by its lightness contrasting the stoic grandeur of the surrounding. It is completely constructed through devices that one can find on the street such as experimental construction materials.
The Megaphone Pavilion will reappear in a yearly rhythm for the next ten years in different urban conditions of the city, allowing it to react to various morphologies as a flexible tensile structure. Inside, Daryan Knoblauch curated a series of performances, talks, exhibitions and events, such as the distribution of participative design surveys as a basis from which the two-hectare site will be developed until 2034.
