AA tutor and David Kohn Architects founder David Kohn has been awarded the RIBA’s House of the Year award for Red House in southwest England.
The House of the Year award is presented annually by RIBA to the best new architect-designed house. Red House was a ten-year project based in the heart of rural Dorset. Kohn was one of three architects to work on the house before its final rustic design was settled upon.
Architect and Jury Head Taro Tsuruta praised the Dorset-based project, ‘Ordinary yet quirky, extravagant although utilitarian, the Red House confronts our expectations of a house in a beautiful setting that never wants to settle into being one way or another.’
The Red House was revealed as this year’s winner during the final episode of Channel 4’s television series Grand Designs: House of the Year.
