INTER1 and Housing and Urbanism tutor Francesco Zuddas will chair two sessions at the upcoming conferences of the Architectural Humanities Research Association (AHRA, Portsmouth, October 2023) and the European Architectural History Network (EAHN, panel co-chair: Sabrina Puddu, Athens, June 2024).
The panels interrelate in focus and respectively consider the contested territory of student housing and domesticity, and the role of youth as overlooked recipients and agents in architectural and urban space-making. Branching off from previous personal research and writing on educational environments across the switch from welfare state to neoliberal times, the panels are conceived as entry points into future collaborative research through the setup of an international network of voices looking at the topics from as wide cultural, historical and geographical backgrounds as possible. Particular emphasis will be placed on exploring tensions such as those between paternalist and reactive action, and between the creation of closed intentional communities and open-ended commoning practices.
The calls for papers are now live and can be accessed here:
AHRA Conference 2023 – Panel: Students in Search of Home (abstract submissions deadline: 22 June 2023)
