Space Popular, a practice co-founded by AA tutors Fredrik Hellberg and Lara Lesmes, has been featured in a number of end-of-year lists of architectural culture and achievements from 2020. In the Guardian, critic Olly Wainwright added them to his list of architectural highlights in 2020, commenting that they had brought 'a splash of colour to what has otherwise been a dull, grey year, the Swedish-Spanish architectural duo of Space Popular injected a bolt of supercharged visual joy into 2020.'
Dezeen featured Space Popular's interview for the Virtual Design Festival in their list of the top 10 architectural talks of 2020, in which the interview the pair discussed the endless possibilities of virtual reality. Dezeen also highlighted Punto de Inflexión as one of the best live events of the year, the first design conference to take place entirely in virtual reality. The virtual space for the conference, based on the street plan of Barcelona, was designed by Space Popular in their characteristically colourful style and enabled attendees to move around, network and flexibly communicate with each other over the course of the event.
