The AA has collaborated with the Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum in London and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana on an exhibition to be held in the Applied Arts Pavilion at La Biennale di Venezia this year. The exhibition is titled Tropical Modernism: Architecture and Power in West Africa, and will analyse the work of the Department of Tropical Architecture (DTS) at the AA in the mid-20th century as a means of critiquing the colonialist implications of tropical architecture. The exhibition is curated by Christopher Turner of the V&A with Nana Biamah-Ofosu and Bushra Mohamed, unit masters of Diploma 2 at the AA, and will include a multi-channel film installation as well as archival material from the DTSand a number of key projects in Ghana. It will travel to the V&A for an expanded exhibition in 2024.
