Admin History: The recording is of the 19th lecture in the series entitled 'Ugliness', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA General Studies programme, 1994-95. Mark Cousins investigates the classical fairy-tale Beauty and the Beast under the light of the Ugly series. He proposes that the narrative conceals and reveals another history that lies just beneath the surface. It is elaborated and discussed as an Oedipus complex triangle. Cousins finds that the Ugly, as a subjective response to certain objects or subjects, is not where it is supposed to be.
Custodial History: Audio cassette recording was made by the AA Audio Visual Department and retained by the AA Photo Library until 2019, when it was transferred to the AA Archives.
