Admin History: The recording is of the 10th lecture in the series entitled 'Conservation', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA General Studies programme, 1996-97. The lecture is listed in the AA Events List as being entitled 'Symbols of Heritage' but the lecture actually delivered is entitled 'Child as Origin of Law'. In this lecture, Mark Cousins examines what he sees as the non-negotiable and tyrannical dialectic which is formulated between adult and child. Starting with Hegel's definition of the master-slave relation, from the perspective of phenomenology, Cousins then traces the linage of child-adult relation in history, literature, and psychology, with the aim of redefining this relation.
Custodial History: Original recording (format unknown) was made by the AA Audio Visual Department and a digital copy (.wma format) has been retained on the department's servers since c2013.
