Admin History: The recording is of the 4th lecture in the series entitled 'The Face', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA Open Lecture series, 2017-2018. In this lecture, Mark Cousins analyses cosmetic surgery and 'the facelift'. He proposes that such actions represent a denial and he raises what he considers as a fundamental perversity of cosmetic surgery, In its pretension to 'the natural'. For Cousins, this represents the collapse of the symbolic order. It constitutes a refusal to accept that we are condemned to.
Custodial History: Original recording (format unknown) was made by the AA Audio Visual Department and a digital copy (.iso format) has been retained on the department's servers since c2018.
