Admin History: The recording is of the 8th lecture in the series entitled 'Scenography', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA Open Lecture series, 2013-2014.Mark Cousins opens the lecture by considering the lack of recognition and identification with one's own photographed image. He targets what he considers the roots of this phenomenon by attending to the subject of society's moulding of the face and body - 'visibility versus recognisability' and 'the collapse of expression'. Mark also touches upon notions of 'sorrow' and 'ambivalence', pausing to analyse the term 'crocodile tears'. Claiming that the term exists as a secular veridical character, he links the notion to how the body can lie through the wearing of gestures.
