Admin History: The recording is of the 12th lecture in the series entitled 'Conservation', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA General Studies programme, 1996-97. The lecture is listed in the AA Events List as being entitled 'Victims and Politics' but the lecture actually delivered is entitled 'Damage and Damages'. In this lecture, Mark Cousins examines what he regards as the pathological use of the category of 'the body' to achieve semantic experience of the world. Calling upon Nietzsche, Kant and Heidegger, Cousins carries out an in depth examination of this phenomena and discusses the concept of subjectivisation. He also identifies the mechanism by which the subject's identification with the damage done to natural objects returns as a sense of being a victim.
Custodial History: Original recording (format unknown) was made by the AA Audio Visual Department and a digital copy (.wma format) has been retained on the department's servers since c2013.
