Admin History: The recording is of the 3rd lecture in a 3-part series delivered by Mark Cousins on the 14th, 15th and 16th January, 2002. In this lecture, Mark Cousins focuses on the notion of 'home' in architecture, discussing different meanings or aspects, including homeland, nation, exile, and homelessness. Cousins addresses the idea of homesickness via an analogy between Odysseus's homecoming and boarding school life. Pursuing Heidegger's ideas on dwelling and building, Cousins implies fixity as a pacifistic state of affairs and considers that dwelling is an ontological issue. Finally, he analyzes conditions of marriage and legitimacy related to dwelling.
