Admin History: The recording is of the 7th lecture in the second lecture series entitled 'Psyche and Space', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA General Studies programme, 2001-2002. Mark Cousins starts this lecture by exploring the ideas of Heinrich Wolfflin, defining them as a form of psychological naturalization. He then considers the work of Morleau Ponty and his concept of Phenomenology, before questioning the notion of art as an object, stating that the psychoanalytic category of 'identification' might have contemporary contact and relevance. Cousins then explores the concept of singularity and series and analyses the discourse from Freud's point of view of fantasy and desire.
