Admin History: The recording is of the 11th lecture in the second lecture series entitled 'Psyche and Space', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA General Studies programme, 2001-2002. Cousins opens his discussion by exploring the notion of 'form' through psychoanalysis. Finding the dissociation of aesthetics from the discourse on form problematic, Cousins proceeds to explore the purpose of psychoanalysis within the domain of aesthetics. Cousins then moves to the subject of hermeneutics in relation to comprehension. Lastly, he explores the concepts of community and solidarity and their link to aesthetics and politics through the work of Claude Lvi-Strauss. Closing the discussion, he states that art always returns to the subject, always there and always real.
