Admin History: The recording is of the 2nd lecture in the series entitled 'Nothing', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA Open Lecture series, 2007-2008. In this lecture, Mark Cousins continues his discussion of opposition and contradiction, building a definition of contradiction as a product and consequence of being able to think. Cousins subsequently relates his ideas regarding 'nothing' to historical and anthropological notions of 'negation', including 'the primitive' and psychoanalytic theories of madness. Cousins then proceeds to a discussion of Freud's position as regards the logic of negation in psychoanalysis.
Custodial History: Original recording (format unknown) was made by the AA Audio Visual Department and a digital copy (.iso format) has been retained on the department's servers since c2013.
