Admin History: The recording is of the 4th lecture in the series entitled 'Technology and the First Person Singular', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA Open Lecture series, 2010-2011. In this lecture, Mark Cousins examines the status of technical developments ending in telephony and other forms of electronic communications. Principally he reflects upon two moments of enormous technological change in the media field: the introduction of writing and the introduction of printing. He presents how different technical objects (the telegraph and then telephone) gave rise to numerous fantasies about electricity, the sense of immediate presence, and the object's absence.
Custodial History: Original recording (format unknown) was made by the AA Audio Visual Department and a digital copy (.iso format) has been retained on the department's servers since c2013.
