Admin History: The recording is of the 6th lecture in the series entitled 'Nothing', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA Open Lecture series, 2007-2008. In this lecture, Mark Cousins argues that 'nothing else' is a field in which we recognize the wish for there to be not just 'something else' but 'something more'. In relation to this Cousins discusses the mother-baby relation in Sigmund Freud's pleasure principle, stressing that the moment the infant moves into the world of representation is the moment that the 'need' becomes the 'wish'. The latter section of the lecture concludes with a discussion concerning the opposition between reality and fantasy.
