Admin History: The recording is of the 1st lecture in the series entitled 'Nothing', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA Open Lecture series, 2007-2008. In this lecture, Mark Cousins considers the concept of 'nothing'. Cousins argues that 'nothing' and its attendant categories have been passed over in formal philosophy. Drawing on a wide range of sources and examples, including 'The Truman Show' movie (1998) and Gaston Leroux's 'The Phantom of the Opera' (1910), Cousins looks at issues related to polarity and contradiction within standard understandings of 'nothing.'
Custodial History: Original recording (format unknown) was made by the AA Audio Visual Department and a digital copy (.iso format) has been retained on the department's servers since c2013.
