Admin History: The recording is of the 5th lecture in the series entitled 'Scenography', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA Open Lecture series, 2013-2014. Mark Cousins embarks upon an exploration of 'identity', touching on the subjects of 'nymphs' and 'muses' and making a connection to the relation between 'Art' as a general category and what he terms 'arts'. He then turns once again to consider the concept of 'scenography' and presentation in Art, together with the category of 'everyday life'. The lecture ends with an analysis of the famous Laocoon Group sculpture, housed at the Vatican, contrasting it with the Looney Tunes' Roadrunner cartoon, emphasizing notions of movement and stillness and considering meanings and representations in Art as compared to real life.
