Admin History: The recording is of the 2nd lecture in the series entitled 'The Face', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA Open Lecture series, 2017-2018. In this lecture Mark Cousins considers the face and 'the mask', drawing from the arguments of Roger Caillois, as stated in his book 'The Mask of the Medusa' (1964). Cousins explains Caillois' 'diagonal science' theory, based on relations between phenomena that cross the standard classifications. He outlines the different functions of mimicry and suggests that they are always embodied in 'the mask'.
Custodial History: Original recording (format unknown) was made by the AA Audio Visual Department and a digital copy (.iso format) has been retained on the department's servers since c2017.
Aquisition: Digital preservation and access copies were created by the AA Archives in 2021, using the digital file held by the the AA Audio Visual Department.
