Admin History: The recording is of the 6th lecture in the series entitled 'The Face', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA Open Lecture series, 2017-2018. In this last lecture of the series, Mark Cousins concludes by drawing attention to the ambivalence condition of 'the face'. He draws om the argument of Emmanuel Levinas, to describe the moment of the birth of an ethic as the site of the encounter between two people, two faces. He considers 'the face' can be a means by which to investigate questions of frontality, a surface in which extension has given way to expression.
Custodial History: Original recording (format unknown) was made by the AA Audio Visual Department and a digital copy (.iso format) has been retained on the department's servers since c2018.
Aquisition: Digital preservation and access copies were created by the AA Archives in 2021, using the digital file held by the the AA Audio Visual Department.
