Admin History: The recording is of the 2nd lecture in a 3-part series delivered by Mark Cousins on the 14th, 15th and 16th January, 2002. In this lecture, Mark Cousins considers the relationship between 'homecoming' in Homer and 'modernity'. Debating on the idea of 'narrative', Cousins implies that the end of a literary work exceeds the function of just finishing it. Mark Cousins scrutinizes architectural thought in the Ancient Greek world in terms of the domestication of a building as well as its retrospective attribution. Cousins develops his argument to focus on the relationship between location and faith, elaborating on the modern concept of location which he regards as a consequence of a sense of dislocation. Finally, he disputes the exclusiveness of the house and the idea of glamour.
