Admin History: The recording is of the 12th lecture in the series entitled 'Psyche and Space', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA General Studies programme, 2000-2001. Mark Cousins begins the lecture by stating that loss is not what logicians define as absence of something but is rather the experience of loss through and as construction. He continues to elaborate upon this idea, citing the condition of infants, whose experiences of loss within the very first few years of their life are so fundamental that the loss lasts their whole lifetime. Cousins begins to trace the loss of the infant, of becoming proper, of obeying rules and obligations. He argues that in a sense, loss is also the construction of culture, whether that construction being mental or physical.
Custodial History: Audio cassette recording was made by the AA Audio Visual Department and retained by the AA Photo Library until 2019, when it was transferred to the AA Archives.
