Admin History: In this lecture Mark Cousins examines whether, through our experience of the body, subjective space is our projection onto the world. Whether directionality must be therefore considered with reference to the body. He problematizes the notion of 'the body' within the Christian tradition, asking whether Christ is the figure of Christ or whether Christ's body is the 'ground'? Mark then points to what he regards as a permanent tension between the body as figure and the body as ground. He concludes by suggesting that perhaps it is evident, from the evidence of the Italian Renaissance, that the victory belongs to the body as figure.
