Admin History: The recording is of the 8th lecture in the series entitled 'The Neighbour', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA Open Lecture series, 2009-2010. In this lecture Cousins discusses the idea of universality. He starts by introducing the notions of 'tolerance' and 'prejudice' both in Marxist and Liberal traditions. Cousins then moves on to the subject of legal relations of contract, law and rights. He explores the idea of universality through Kant's argument of ethical judgement and in the context of religion. The lecture is concluded with further elaboration on the subject, as seen through the prism of Capitalism, corporations, juridical persons and the issue of war - finally introducing the concept of 'jurisdictional black hole'.
