Admin History: The recording is of the 6th lecture in the series entitled 'Conservation', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA General Studies programme, 1996-97. In this lecture, Mark Cousins considers conservation in relation to issues of scale. He points out that because the world is bigger than any representation of it, the very idea of scale, or measurement comparisons, produces the consequence that a conserved world is a different object. Through the theories of Freud and Kant, he argues that measurement comparisons between the world (or any real object) and the conservation model is a failed project, as will only offer a partial account of it.
Custodial History: Original recording (format unknown) was made by the AA Audio Visual Department and a digital copy (.wma format) has been retained on the department's servers since c2013.
