Admin History: The recording is of the 1st lecture in the series entitled 'Scenography', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA Open Lecture series, 2013-2014. In this lecture, Mark Cousins lays out the general theme and topics of this series, an exploration of the concept of scenography beyond its uses within the discourse of the theatre. Cousins then introduces the topic of 'the zone' of artwork, which functions to separate art from the world whilst also articulating the same work to the world. Cousins then explores the concept of 'presentation'; differentiating the terms 'artwork' and 'art object' and claiming that the former will only become the latter through the frame of 'exhibition'. Cousins ends the lecture by exploring the notions of 'totality' and 'existence' within artworks.
