Mark Cousins begins the lecture by attempting a definition of the relation between art and society. Taking a quote by Bruno Snell as his starting point, Cousins considers whether art has, in fact, invented everything that we call 'society'. Cousins then explores the nature and origins of art, discussing the terms 'art world' and 'scene of Art'. Cousins then analyses the notion of the 'muse' in relation to 'the conversion of art', before elaborating on the idea of authorship in the exhibition and presentation of art work
