Admin History: The recording is of the 5th lecture in the series entitled 'The Ugly', given by Mark Cousins as part of the AA Open Lecture series, 2006-2007. Mark Cousins begins this lecture by claiming to take a particular, amalgamated view on visual perception, in respect to the aesthetics of beauty and the ugly. Taking this route, he elaborates on semiotics and the concepts of 'mimesis and representation' and 'visual perception'. Cousins relates the state of hallucination to the 'imago', while relating this notion, in turn, to desire, imagination and recognition.
Custodial History: Original recording (format unknown) was made by the AA Audio Visual Department and a digital copy (.iso format) has been retained on the department's servers since c2013.
