A day-long think tank at the AA with UK, European and US industry leaders to explore solutions that could improve the building industry financially, politically, ethically and creatively. The aim of the project is to change the nature of the conversation from one that can be adversarial to one that is collaborative and potentially transformative.
The think tank will consist of three 90-minute pecha-kucha-style sessions: short presentations followed by roundtable discussions. Presentations will address topics relating to the influence of global communication and information exchanges across cultures and the roles that manufacturing, material science and product design will play in the building industry. Discussions will examine the evolution of the industry through the context of political, cultural, historic, environmental and urban conditions.
This is the second in a series hosted by Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation (GSAPP). Participants include Adams Kara Taylor, Arup, Atelier Ten, Brett Steele, Foster and Partners, Grimshaw Architects LLP, Johnson Controls, Oldcastle Glass, Rogers Stirk Harbour and Parners, Turner Construction, Werner Sobek, Jane Wernick Associates, Hugh Whitehead and Mark Wigley, Dean, GSAPP, among many others.
