Founded in 1984 the Madrid-based practice of Abalos and Herreros has worked largely on public building - from sports facilities to waste-disposal plants. Such projects include the Valdemingmez recycling plant and a town hall in Calmenarejo, Madrid (both of which are clad in translucent recycled matrerials), Usera Public Library and the gymnastics pavilion at El Retiro which is designed to be covered in vegetation. Both architects have taught extensively and are former Unit Masters of the AA.
