Join curator Albert Brenchat-Aguilar and designer Ella Mahalia Adu for a Members' tour of the current exhibition in the Front Members' Room and AA Gallery, As Hardly Found in the Art of Tropical Architecture.
Having worked intimately with the contents of the AA’s Department of Tropical Studies archive, Albert Brenchat-Aguilar has devised an exhibition with Ella Mahalia Adu that goes beyond the singular perspective given by the archive’s records from the department’s founder and former director Otto Koenigsberger. The exhibition recentres the department’s rich and diverse ecological approaches to the built environment through an ensemble of archival documents, fictional reconstructions, and artworks by Magda Cordell, Avinash Chandra, Bruce Onobrakpeya, Susanne Wenger, and others who worked with DTS architects. It also includes new commissions by artists Ato Jackson and Mariana Castillo Deball that explore hardly found marks in the archive as potential histories for alternative futures.
The tour will be a final chance to view the exhibition before it closes on Saturday 25 March.
This tour is free and open to AA students, staff, registered members, alumni, and their guests. Places are limited – please book in advance.
Drinks and snacks will be served during the private tour from 6.30pm in the Gallery.
