An evening celebrating the life and work of Pascal Schöning with his friends, collaborators and students from Diploma Unit 3. The event will include a premiere screening of "Without here and there" - a film by Ron Kenley that documents the life and work of Pascal Schöning through the objects that populated his home, as well as the thoughts, stories and memories of his past students, friends and colleagues.
Pascal Schöning HonAADipl 1939-2016
Pascal taught at the AA from 1983 through to 2008 in Diploma Unit 3. A much loved unit for many generations of pupils, Pascal always relished the fact that his students’ final work rarely was presented in the form of a building. Instead, he encouraged students to express their ideas on architecture through the medium of film. His work with students led him to what he came to call Cinematic Architecture, an architecture more concerned with space and events than with physical buildings and materials. He was the author of ‘A Manifesto for a Cinematic Architecture’ (2006), ‘Cinematic Architecture 1993-2008’ (2009), and ‘Fact and fiction : everything in life is as much fiction as it is fact’ (2013) - all published by AA Publications.
