What is more important - access or comfort? Do definitions of comfort affect design standards? Do people agree on what conditions have the most influence on perceptions of comfort? Ian Taylor, Associate Director of Bennetts Associates, addresses these questions by drawing on two case studies: the Richard Attenborough Centre for Disability and the Arts at the University of Leicester and the Feasibility Study for the redevelopment of the Museum of the Moving Image. Taylor discusses the significance of accessible design and how to make buildings comfortable through the manipulation and deployment of different colours, materials and natural light.
