Frank Barkow, a former AA Intermediate Unit Master, and Regine Leibinger talk about the work of their practice Barkow Leibinger Architekten, including their winning entry for a competition to design a day-care and youth centre in Berlin/Pankow comprising a low-cost structure using panel systems over a typical masonry core. Founded by Barkow and Leibinger in 1993, the scope of the practices work spans from cultural to industrial projects. Their focus involves masterplanning and building representational and functional buildings for production, logistical and office spaces. The firms approach is formed by the interaction of practice, research and teaching. Their interdisciplinary, discursive attitude allows their work to expand and respond to advancing knowledge.
