Bilbao is to undergo a significant transformation by the year 2000. The city, located on the coast of northern Spain, is to become a centre for European trade, tourism and culture, with projects including a new Conference, Music and Performing Arts Centre, the building of the American Guggenheim Museum of Art, and changes to the old dock areas. Most of the millennial schemes are being undertaken by internationally known architects. In an event that coincides with the exhibition 'Bilbao 2000: Architecture and Regeneration in Bilbao' at the Royal Festival Hall Galleries, Dennis Sharp introduces presentations from two of the key figures involved in the city's redevelopment.
