Join us to celebrate the launch of AA Files 81.
The launch of AA Files 81 offers an opportunity to celebrate the AA’s journal of record and its new graphic and editorial project started in December 2024 with Issue 80. Editors Maria Shéhérazade Giudici and Rory Sherlock will be joined by authors Maria Paez Gonzalez and Lev Bratishenko to discuss the agency of writing as a critical and design tool.
The event will frame publishing both as a project, and a process, presenting the choices that lay behind the making of the journal, while opening a conversation on the relationship between the production of built space and its cultural agenda.
This theme links all the essays gathered in Issue 81, which explore a range of ways to frame the idea of spatial intelligence – from the evolution of digital techniques in design education to a radical questioning of the parameters through which we assess environmental sustainability.
First printed in 1981, AA Files aims to build a long-term debate on architecture as a form of knowledge. It is not a reactionary or disposable publication, and does not address short-term trends. Instead, its relevance relies on the timelessness of its form and content, as well as the skill, intelligence and wit of its contributors.
AA Files 81 features contributions by Ahmed Belkhodja, Anna Font, Anooradha Iyer Siddiqi, Boris Hamzeian, George Jepson, Huma Gupta, Giaime Meloni and Sabrina Puddu, Maria Paez Gonzalez, Octave Perrault, Olivia Neves Marra, Sony Devabhaktuni.
