'We work with companies. In different schools they do a lot of projects but they never produce them as products. What I have tried to do in Lausanne is to put the student in a strong relation with the production. We do things till the end - that's the best way to learn design . . . we do also prospective things, but sometimes it's very interesting to do things to the end.' Pierre Keller in a roundtable discussion with Zak Kyes and Shumon Basar on clients and patrons. Pierre Keller is the director of the Ecole Cantonale d'Art de Lausanne (ECAL). Keller was the driving force behind the ambitious project to relocate the school's diverse facilities into one vast site. Designed by Bernard Tschumi, the new campus has been constructed around the frame of an old sack factory in the Lausanne suburb of Renens and includes large exhibition spaces for the Espace Lausannois dArt Contemporain (ELAC), of which Keller is also a director.
