AA Diploma Honours is the highest award you can achieve upon completion of the five-year programme. Up to one 5th year student per diploma unit is nominated to present for honours at the end of each academic year – a ten minute presentation that needs to convince the Diploma tutors of the value, relevance and premise of their project.
Five projects were awarded Diploma with Honours in 2022–23, manifesting the breadth of interests contained within the school.
Ammara proposes a settlement in Pakistan that redraws the boundary between rural and urban, work and home, and privately owned and shared; Kelly looks at the consequences of the Mississippi becoming a canal of enclosed levies and debt infrastructure; while Seonwoo examines the epidemic of demolition surrounding the AA and speculates how the school can reposition itself at the centre of a local reuse network. Demi documents the spatial and social manifestations of Alàdúrà churches and their distinctly Nigerian form of worship in the context of London; and Julia celebrates our vital need to be next to water and explores alternative ways to inhabit the river’s edge.
The recipients of the AA Diploma with Honours 2023 will present their final projects and discuss the process of how they each developed their projects, their choice of subject matter, site, media, position and audience, as well as what receiving honours means to them.
