My work has always moved through an idea of architecture intended as a combination of multiple ingredients that go beyond the act of building. The paper for this symposium consists of a medium-length film recently realised for the 23rd International Exhibition at the Milan Triennale, titled Andrea Branzi –Mostra in forma di prosa (Andrea Branzi – Exhibition in the form of prose).
Theoretical texts, thoughts, writings in prose, in verses, or in a mixed form, alongside an uninterrupted sequence of drawings, photographs and videos. All the frames seem to follow a casual arrangement, and perhaps they are: today everything is, apparently, unpredictable, yet this mode of progressing produces new forms of knowledge.
To then arrive to the final proclamation “ARCHITECTURE BELONGS TO THEATRE”
Andrea Branzi architect and designer, graduated in Florence in 1967; he now lives and works in Milan. From 1964 to 1974 he was a member of Archizoom Associati: protagonists of the Florentine Radical Architecture movement. In 1982 Branzi opened his own studio to devote himself to architecture, urban planning, and interior and industrial design. In 1983 he was one of the founders of the Domus Academy in Milan, the first international school specializing in industrial design, design management, and fashion. Branzi was a professor and chairman of the School of Interior Design at the Polytechnic University of Milan until 2009.
The AA-Yonsei Lecture Series The Ambivalence of Design is organised by James Kwang-Ho Chung & Brendon Carlin (Unit Masters, AA Diploma 19), Jooeun Sung (Professor, Yonsei University) and Jae-Won Yi (Adjunct Professor, Yonsei University).
