To complement the Francis Bacon exhibition at Tate Britain, this symposium, organised by Brian Hatton, considers spatial and architectural aspects in Bacon's art. Bacon composed his pictures by risking spontaneous acts and chance effects of painting within carefully designed and projected spatial frameworks, often deploying traces of his early work in furniture and interior decoration. This double aspect of Bacon's work has interested not only painters but also architects and filmmakers.
