This lecture examines the technological, social and cultural changes in the information society for new urban building. Presenting the last 15 years of his work, Vicente Guallart investigates architectures ability to construct systems for inhabitable environments in diverse environmental, social and economic conditions. His collaborations with specialists in geology, anthropology, sociology, engineering, economics, software and interface design have blurred traditional boundaries. The projects follow a natural logic, referring to components originating in nature, as well as to environmental systems. Such a logic connects nature with the transformations of urban spaces, social organisations, and the digital world. Vicente Guallart opened his studio in Barcelona in 1992. He is Director of the new Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (iaac.net). He has lectured at Princeton and Taipei universities, UPenn, UCLA, MIT, Space (Seoul) and the AA. He is co-author of the Metapolis Dictionary of Advanced Architecture, and HiperCatalonia; and author of Media, Mountains and Architecture and Intelligent Realities.
