Aljoša Dekleva and Tina Gregorič, AA graduates and the curators of the Slovenian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale this year, will give an exclusive insight into the creation of their studio's recent book Home by Dekleva Gregorič Architects, published by the Museum of Architecture and Design, Ljubljana.
The book illustrates a series of distinct projects, allegedly belonging to the realm of individual dwelling, created over a decade of Dekleva Gregorič architects, and presents them in a comprehensive and comparative mode. Selected works span diverse climates and localities, where each project is a particular response to intense research of specific constraints and conditions of the context, addressing various notions of home that become the ultimate generative tools which aim to challenge the obvious. The individual houses, or objects of experiment, appear as shelters operating as interfaces between nature and humans, cultivating the small scale as one with potential for sustainability.
Home by Dekleva Gregorič Architects includes an introductory essay by Dominique Boudet titled Materiality, Identity, Continuity.
Dekleva Gregorič architects is an architectural practice founded in 2003, just after Tina and Aljoša both received their Masters in Architecture with Distinction at the AA. Initially they began exploring the topics of user participation, sharing and exploring the mass-customization of collective housing at the AA. They are co-authors of an internationally acclaimed AA book and exhibition Negotiate my boundary!. Their studio’s work focuses on domestic typologies, public structures and urban strategies pursuing an approach of ‘research by design’ and ‘design by research’. Aljoša is Programme Director of the AA Visiting School Nanotourism, and Tina is Professor of Architecture at TU Wien, Austria.
