A strong supporter of natural environments and individuality, things which he felt should be considered as integral to designing an urban landscape, Friedensreich Hundertwasser explores the problems of social housing and suggests ways in which people could change cities into a better place to live. Notorious for his boldly-coloured artwork and provocative performances, Hundertwasser is perhaps more renowned for his revolutionary architectural designs which incorporate irregular forms and natural features of the landscape. For example, Hundertwasserhaus, a low-income apartment block in Vienna, features undulating floors, a roof covered with earth and grass, and large trees growing from inside the room with limbs extending from windows. Hundertwasser argued that the design of any building should be influenced by the aesthetics of its eventual tenants. NB: Image slightly blurry.
