Clive McDonnell engages in a discussion regarding landscape, ecology, and water in design. Working at the Derek Lovejoy Partnership - a leading landscape architecture and design practice - McDonnell took full responsibility for the conceptual and detailed design for all soft landscape works at Disneyland Paris. He worked closely with Walt Disneys design team to fulfill the aspirations of the Disney Corporation and its team of imagineers. The resulting parkland replicates jungles, desert landscapes and rainforests using living plant material and creates the setting for heavily themed buildings such as the Sleeping Beauty Castle with its square trees, the futuristic world of Jules Vernes and Phantom Manor. Other projects include the treatment of the contaminated site of the former Bell Green gas works in Sydenham, the landscaping of Thorpe Park in collaboration with Edward Cullinan Architects, and the Sun Life Assurance HQ near Bristol in collaboration with SOM.
