To close the exhibition, In Pursuit of Images, producer and visual artist, Kelman Duran will preview for the first time his new work, Tabitha.
Tabitha is a sound work dedicated to the idea of placing disparate samples around each other in an sonic orbit. Samples include words by Denise Ferreira da Silva, “Junkie” Vietnam vets back from the war, and underground Reggaeton from the 90’s amongst others. The project began with listening closely to da Silva and has developed alongside the artist’s engagements the black radical tradition. Much like the documentary films in the exhibition, Duran deconstructs and recreates the experience of time in his work, seeking to shift and manipulate the expectations and reality of the listener’s experience as a means to think through the political possibilities of space and sound.
“think of the black object in its figurings
such as Amadou Diallo’s wallet and Trayvon Martin’s hoody”
