AA members and alumni are invited to the Royal Academy for a guided tour of the London Un-Masqued exhibition that assembles the current works from AA Diploma Unit 11.
With twelve objects, one collage and an atlas, Unit 11 has created responses that broaden our understanding of London. The students' research and proposals characterise London as a strange yet familiar place where alternative cities exist within the city – an idea inspired by China Miéville's fantasy novels The City and The City and Un Lun Dun.
The work is shown alongside John Hejduk: London Masque, which symbolises cities made up of subjects and objects. Diploma 11's works fuse narratives with tangible phenomena to present alternative readings of the city in constant forms of transformation, where the unbuilt, existing and erased fragments together form multiple histories. Hence, as in the objects, the collage and collage the atlas in the exhibition are in dialogue.
Students of Diploma 11, led by Shin Egashira, will be available to discuss and guide visitors through the exhibition. The event is open to all, but please book here to let us know you are coming. London Un-Masqued is at the Ronald and Rita McAulay Gallery of the Royal Academy until 21 May.
